Hosting and Testing
Canine Water Sports governs, records and sanctions CWS water testing
events. Group Members can host
CWS water testing events anywhere in the world. These tests require
the dog/handler team to perform water tasks that represent knowledge,
ability and skill in water work. Each single water task is classified
under seven major categories: Team Swim, Retrieve work, Delivery
work, Tow work, Submersion work, Scent discrimination work and boat
work. The only task a team is required to pass, to be eligible for
further tests, is the Team Swim. Earning a Team Swim merit or certificate
demonstrates a dog’s desire and ability to swim safely next to their
handler over a designated water course. Life jackets are optional
for dogs, but mandatory for handlers. All kinds of dogs are welcome
in Canine Water Sports, but dogs must be registered and assigned
an H2O number
to enter a water test. Attend a water testing
event and see how much fun you can have with a water loving
dog.
